Wedding Bands

Its the biggest day of your life and you want to make it as special as possible. One way to do that is to book an awesome live band for your reception. But one thing you want to make sure of is that there are no surprises so you need to do your due diligence when seeking out a band that will be to your guests liking. The Baltimore area is fertile ground to find great live bands. With quite a bit of research and some questions that we will provide, you can have confidence that your reception entertainment will bring the house down.

Get some recommendations from people you know. There must be friends or family who have recently been married. Ask them if they had a live band at their wedding. Another source is to ask other wedding vendors if they have bands they have worked with. Some venues will have a preferred vendors list and there may be a few bands listed that you can contact. Once you have a list, check out their styles and narrow your list to the ones who play a style you are partial to.

When you contact potential bands, the first thing you want to find out is if they have your wedding date open on their calendar. If they don't , then there is no reason to proceed. If they do, ask them if they are performing in the Baltimore area anytime soon. Going and seeing a band live is the best way to evaluate their talent and abilities. You will be able to see what kind of energy they generate among the crowd and how polished they are in terms of their presentation. If seeing them in person is just not possible, then see if they have a DVD of a live performance, preferably a wedding performance.

Once you know that they are performers worthy of your wedding, ask to have a sit down meeting with them. Evaluate their personalities when you meet them, do they seem like good people who want to do a good job for your wedding or are you just another gig. Talk about their wedding experience and how they like to operate at a reception. Ask them if they mind being the emcee and possibly learning three or four special numbers. Ask to see a typical playlist and make sure you can cross off any songs you would absolutely not want to have played. Ask them if they have suggestions for the reception. If they have played hundreds of weddings, they must have seen it all and they will know what works and what does not work.

Make sure you work out the most minute details including the time they should arrive to setup and what time they should finish. Will they be available to take requests? In terms of cost, compare all of the bands on your final list and make a decision on which one is the most value for what they charge. Make sure all of the details are in writing, never make any verbal agreements. Lastly, book your favorite band and let the dancing begin.
